11.
What happens if the other driver does not have enough
insurance to cover my claim?

Many motorists
carry only the minimum motor vehicle liability limits coverage:
20/40/10. This type of coverage means that there is $20,000 in
insurance coverage for each individual who is injured; up to $40,000
if more than one person is injured (but in event no more than
$20,000 to any one person); and, $10,000 for personal property loss
(e.g. your car). For a relatively low premium, a person can purchase
additional coverage from their own insurance company which is called
underinsured motorist coverage. This type of coverage will kick in
after the wrongdoer's insurance limits have been exhausted and
provide compensation for the excess of injuries, up to the amount of
additional coverage purchased.
